Vice Presidential aspirant of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Editor-In-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Rebecca Ekpe, says her motivation to contest stems from a strong desire to be responsive to the evolving needs of today’s journalism ecosystem. She emphasized her belief in the power of impactful journalism and noted that she possesses the experience and vision needed to help drive that transformation within the Association.
“I believe that I am well equipped with the wherewithal to deliver the mandate as the number two person in the leadership position of the vice president of the GJA”
She was speaking in an exclusive interview with GBC NEWS, ahead of the crucial election on Monday June 30. Madam Ekpe, who is current Public Affairs Officer of the GJA, stated that the role has given her valuable experience and a solid foundation to serve Ghanaian journalists even more effectively in a higher capacity.
“I have come from a position, which is the public affairs position, where I have learned a lot. We’ve dealt a lot dealing with crisis management and also dealt a lot with a lot of stakeholders”
She pledged to promote welfare of journalists which she noted is very crucial as it encompasses the overall general well-being of journalists.
“One of the things that I believe is very critical to journalists in this country is the issue of welfare. Welfare is so critical that every day we hear something about welfare. For me, I want to put it in the context of the fact that welfare means the overall wellbeing of journalists, safety, and protection of journalists”
Madam Ekpe appealed to colleagues and veteran journalists to support her bid and vote for her as the next Vice President, promising to advocate for their welfare and promote their collective well-being.
