The Association of Medicine Counter Assistants, Ghana (AMCAG), has inaugurated its Upper East Regional branch with a call on employers to ensure good working conditions for its members in recognition of their contribution to healthcare.

The Association also encouraged newly qualified members to join for collective advocacy and professional development.

The event, held in Bolgatanga, marks a significant step in strengthening pharmaceutical care in the region. It formally integrates Medicine Counter Assistants (MCAs) in the area into the national AMCAG structure.

National Vice Chairman of AMCAG, Mr Raphael Otabil Addo, said the association provides a platform for professional growth and a unified voice for MCAs in the region.

“It is very important that it is a professional body that our people belong to. And before you will be recognized fully and partaking whatever the association is doing, as a region, we have to inaugurate the region and accept them into our midst. That is why we came to inaugurate the region after they put themselves together,” he explained.

Interim President of the regional branch, Mr Atinga Frank Ayine, shared his vision for the association and emphasised unity among MCAs to address employment and welfare concerns.

“Now that the association is in the region, every member or every MCA should make a point to be part of this association so that we can have a common goal and we can fight for a course. Through the national leadership the government can also listen to us especially when it comes to employment issues. But when we are not united we cannot achieve the purpose of the association,” Mr. Ayine pleaded.

The establishment of the regional chapter is especially important for recent graduates of the Endswell MCA School, a local institution offering a one-year training programme for aspiring MCAs.

The inauguration, supported by healthcare firm LUEX, brought together over 65 new MCAs, national AMCAG executives, and other stakeholders in the health sector.
