President Mahama confers Ghana’s highest State honour on Indian PM Modi

President John Dramani Mahama has conferred Ghana’s highest State honour, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, in recognition of his distinguished leadership and contributions to strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The honour was bestowed during a state banquet held at Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, as part of Prime Minister Modi’s official two-day state visit to Ghana.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a solemn responsibility to further deepen cultural, economic, and strategic cooperation between Ghana and India.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratittude to the people and Government of Ghana and dedicated the honour to “the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.”

“This honour is also a responsibility to keep working towards a stronger India–Ghana friendship,” he wrote. “India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trusted friend and development partner.”

The visit underscores the long-standing historical ties between Ghana and India, as both countries explore new opportunities for collaboration in trade, technology, education, and development.
