Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered an urgent update on Thomas Partey’s contractual situation at Arsenal, revealing that negotiations over a new deal are not progressing. The Ghanaian midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June and Fabrizio Romano confirmed there are now concrete chances that Partey could leave the club as a free agent in the coming days.
Despite being linked with clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, Partey’s preference is to remain in North London, though his future remains uncertain. The 31-year-old had a standout season last year, making 52 appearances, scoring four goals, and providing three assists across all competitions.
His performances were instrumental in Arsenal’s success, especially during their Champions League quarter-final victories over Real Madrid. With such a pivotal role in the team, fans and club officials are eager to see him stay, but ongoing negotiations suggest there may soon be a different outcome.
Arsenal last week announced they are releasing several players later this month and disclosed that talks with Partey are still ongoing. However, Romano’s update indicates that discussions between the club and the player have hit a standstill.
He posted on X: “Negotiations between Arsenal and Thomas Partey over new deal are not advancing. No agreement so far and now concrete chances to part ways in the upcoming days. Thomas would be available as free agent.” This development has prompted speculation about potential suitors from Europe and the Middle East.
Manager Mikel Arteta has publicly shown support for Partey’s continuation at Arsenal. When asked about the progress of the contract talks, Arteta responded: “Yes, there is progress with all the players. I’ll leave that to Andrea and the club to decide and to talk about.”
He added that the club’s intention is very clear, implying that Arsenal remains keen on keeping the experienced midfielder, but no definitive agreement has been reached yet.
With only days remaining before Partey can leave for free, the next few weeks will be critical for Arsenal’s squad planning. The club may face the challenge of replacing a key player, or they could secure his future with a new deal.
