FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic deaths of Portugal forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. Both brothers died in a car accident in Spain’s Zamora province earlier this week.
Infantino acknowledged the significant impact both players had on the football community and extended his condolences to their families and clubs.

In a heartfelt statement, Infantino said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. Aged 28, Diogo has enjoyed a fantastic career to date and had many great years ahead of him, while his brother André was thriving at FC Penafiel – they will both be so sorely missed by all those who knew them and by the worldwide football community.”

Diogo Jota was a celebrated forward for Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team, known for his skill and contributions to recent major victories, including the UEFA Nations League title.
André Silva, though less internationally known, was an emerging talent playing as an attacking midfielder for FC Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.
Infantino extended his sympathies not only to the families but also to the clubs and federations affected by the loss. “On behalf of FIFA and the wider football family, my thoughts are with their family and friends, as well as everyone at Liverpool FC, FC Penafiel and the Portuguese Football Federation. May they rest in peace,” he added.
The football world continues to grieve the sudden loss of two promising players whose lives and careers were tragically cut short. FIFA’s message underscores the unity and support within the global football community during this difficult time
