Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has officially joined Swiss Challenge League side FC Aarau on a two-year contract following his departure from Swiss Super League club FC Zurich.

The 24-year-old forward becomes one of Aarau’s key summer signings as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Afriyie Barnieh’s exit from FC Zurich was confirmed on July 3, 2025, after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The Ghanaian had joined Zurich in January 2023 on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Accra Hearts of Oak, but despite making 50 appearances and scoring two goals, he struggled to secure a regular starting position during his time at the club.

The forward first rose to prominence in Ghana with Hearts of Oak and also captained the Ghana U-20 team to victory at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

His move to Switzerland was seen as a significant step in his career, but limited game time prompted the decision to seek new opportunities where he could play a more influential role.

FC Aarau, competing in Switzerland’s second tier, have welcomed Afriyie Barnieh as part of their efforts to push for promotion and improve their attacking options.

The two-year deal signals confidence in his ability to make an impact and help the club achieve its ambitions in the Challenge League.
